I believe community service and outreach are crucial to uplifting our community. I have been involved in countless projects and organizations that I enjoy giving back with. Here are just a few...
Pancakes: Serving Up Hope is a student-led initiative at the University of San Diego (USD) which aims to alleviate hunger in downtown San Diego and build a sense of community amongst those experiencing homelessness. Pancakes SUH serves as a platform for people who are looking for volunteer opportunities and resource agencies that assist those who are in need.
As the founder of the Pancakes Club at USD, and a former supervisor of the organization, I have supported the growth of the organization for many years. First starting as a volunteer and social media/website designer, I quickly grasped my role as a leader within the organization. Pancakes is now a non-profit that has vast support from its community and the university which allows it to continue to operate and serve San Diego community members to this day.
WAVE Council Member
WAVE is a summer research fellowship at Caltech that aims to offer summer opportunities to marginalized communities and individuals from non-R1 universities. As a minority graduate student coming from a university that did not offer any graduate programs within STEM, I take pride in being a mentor to those who share a similar background to mine.
As a previous WAVE student during the summer of 2019, I am happy to be able to serve as a council member and mentor to students in physics who are now taking part in the WAVE program.
GSRI Mentor
GSRI (The Graduate Student Research Institute) at Caltech is an organization for incoming first-year graduate students who come from marginalized and minority communities. It brings together students who are a small fraction of the Caltech community and provides valuable resources to assist in the success of these students.
Having participated in GSRI as a first-year graduate student I am proud to now be a mentor to these incoming students and assist in their development and path toward finding their fit in grad school.
